Internet Gambling vs. land based gambling
Internet gambling and land-based gambling are both similar; they deal with the same rules and methodologies attributed to gambling. The games are the same. For example, the Belaggio in Las Vegas does not offer a different version of Blackjack compared to an online casino. Still, there are many differences between Internet gambling and land-based gambling.
Virtual vs. Physical
The most glaring difference between Internet gambling and land-based gambling is delivery. Online casinos exist only as software. There are certain things a user must have to be able to partake in an online casino. A user must have access to a computer with a high-speed Internet connection. They must have a means to deposit funds electronically, whether through a credit card, or perhaps a wire transfer. A player can’t insert $100 into the computer’s floppy disc drive, although it would be cool if they could.A land-based casino could seem a lot more real because it actually exists. A land-based casino is a place a player can venture to. There will be humans dealing the cards, spinning the wheel, collecting the money, serving drinks.
There will be plush red carpet, bright lights and loud noises; a cacophony of noise, color and smell for a player’s senses.
What’s more convenient?
Is Internet gambling more convenient than land-based gambling? In many ways it is. For starters, obviously it’s easier to turn on a computer, sit down, click a few buttons and begin to wager.
At a land-based casino a player needs to arrange transportation, if flying to Las Vegas or Atlantic City, it won’t be cheap. There will be lines and long-waits, costly hotel expenses and smoky parlors filled with all types of people.
Legalities
An obvious difference between land-based gambling and Internet gambling is that in many places land-based gambling is illegal. Other than Nevada, Atlantic City, Indian Casinos and pari-mutual facilities like horse and dog tracks, there is nowhere to gamble, at least in America.
Although the government would like to make Internet gambling illegal, they have not. Internet gambling facilities operate outside of the United States so it is hard to enforce. Gambling could be a question of ethics but the fact remains Internet gambling is not illegal.
